Arrows in our Hands!

by L. F. Filali

Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, The fruit of the womb is a reward.  Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, So are the children of one's youth.  (Psalms 127 3-4)

We have one true legacy in this earth, our children.  Think about it, they carry on our physical attributes and everything they are is a product of what they've learned from us.  Although we don't teach them everything they learn, the way they receive and process information and their attitude toward life is directly shaped by the environment we provide for them and how we relate to them.  It carries on generation to generation throughout posterity.

If you're anything like me, you weren't born looking just like Jesus and are probably carrying some issues from life before you knew Him.  After all, we are products of the people entrusted with our well-being and mine, while doing the best they knew how, were far from perfect or even ideal.  I learned many good things from them about morality, holding a job, responsibility with money, etc.  Still, they too were just products of their parents before them.  Sometimes, as I see myself repeating some of the same mistakes my parents made, I cringe and am tempted to come under condemnation, but there's hope.

Romans 8:1 says there is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus who walk not after the flesh but after the spirit; for the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made us free from the law of sin and death.

Jesus is the restorer of our souls (Psalms 23).  His desire is to see not only you healed, set free and restored but to break the chain of hurt in the lives of our children as well.  If your children are saved, the same promises in the Word of God that apply to you apply to them.  Even if they aren't, you have a promise for that in Psalms 112:2-4 which says 'his descendants will be mighty on earth.  The generation of the upright will be blessed. Wealth and riches will be in his house and his righteousness endures forever.'

What can I do?  you might ask.  I've made so many mistakes.  Fear not!  The Lord is with you.  He watches over His word to perform it and faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God (Romans 10:17).  Find the Scriptures that say "in Him", "in whom" and in Christ (there are over 200 of them in the New Testament, starting in the Book of Romans); begin speaking them out loud over yourself and your children.  For instance, 2 Corinthians 5:21, say "I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus."  Not only will faith begin to rise in your heart and you'll begin to see yourself the way God sees you, but He will watch over it and perform it in the lives of your children.

Speak the Word!  And watch the anointing of God remove every burden and destroy every yoke of bondage in your life and the lives of your children.  What greater legacy could we leave?
